Tips for women to make Jiu-Jitsu more Comfortable.

Starting in BJJ for me was daunting; not knowing what to wear and how to go about certain things made it unenjoyable; I felt foolish at times as it looked so much easier for others. My hair constantly went into my face, and I wish I had the same information and advice I have now. So here ill tell you things that majorly helped me.

Among many things, my hair was very problematic, it was getting ripped and tangled and was getting in my way; after a while, I started learning I couldn't do braids very well, but I knew an everyday ponytail would do. Below is the most effortless, typical BJJ hair that genuinely helped me.

Let's talk periods, it feels weird, but I trained a lot when on my period; many people can't take the first day, and that's okay, but here are some things I did to make it easier, double layers, I wore pads. You can wear tampons, but I feel they're too risky. But on no-Gi, you can wear shorts underneath spats or tight shorts with looser shorts to help you feel comfortable. With gi, I like to double layer also. Painkillers saved my life; before training, id takes painkillers 30 mins before and make sure to eat even more than usual you'll need to account for that lost energy.

Sports bras can be so painful on the tops of your shoulders when training; I use kinesiology tape on the top of my traps and shoulders before wearing anything as it helps it from digging in.

Proper gear can be costly compared to guys getting equipment; you don't nearly have to spend a lot of money on spats and rash guards; I found buying any gym gear can do the trick without the fancy names. Of course, you'll have to check what they desire in competitions.
